Being a musician is a big part of my personality and who I am but being a music lover, listener and fan is an even bigger part. What drives me to create music is how much I truly love to listen to it. There is music playing in the house pretty much constantly.
I, like most people these days own a multiple CD changer. Mine holds five at a time and is usually full but always changing. The process is that when I want to hear a CD I remove one that's been in there for a while and replace it with the new selection. If the new CD is one I'm not familiar with I'll listen to it and if I like it will stay in, if I don't I'll remove it. We won't be discussing the latter. When this process successfully happens five times and I have completely new selections in my changer I'll list them here and date this accomplishment.( I won't include any titles that have been previously listed, just one entry per title). I often go through periods where I lean towards a particular style so you might see a lot of say bebop clumped together or country or blues or whatever.
Now, when I refer to a "new" CD I don't necessarily mean a newly released CD. It might be an old recording that I love or it might be an old recording that I didn't appreciate the first time I heard it and I'm giving it a second chance, or an artist that I've always heard of but never had a chance to REALLY listen to in depth.Or it might actually be a new release.
We live in a great time for music fans such as myself. With of all of the recording being re-released on CD we can go into most any record store and choose from selections that scan the last eighty years or so. With all this to choose from we should never be without some great piece of music to discover ( or rediscover ).
These are not listed in order of preference. These CD's are just listed chronologically as they enter my CD changer starting today. If I have time I'll give a little review of the CD or artist but that also doesn't mean I like that artist better than one I don't review it just means I had more time on my hands that day.
Some of you might find that you and I listen to the same music, some might get turned on to some music you might not have listened to otherwise, and some might decide that I have really bad taste. To each his ( or her ) own. Just remember there is no such thing as good or bad when it comes to art, just whether YOU like it or not.

1. Jim Hall, Pat
Metheny - This is real guitar player stuff,
kind of self indulgent but wonderful. When I listen to
how good these guys play on here it’s VERY humbling to
say the least.
2. Sharon Jones and the
Dap-Kings “100 days, 100 nights”
Her band,
the "Dap-kings” are a bunch of younger white guys
from Brooklyn who obviously love 60’s soul music
and really do a great job of playing it. They also
played on Amy Winehouse’s last CD that won all the
Grammies so I’m not the only one who digs these
guys
3.Grant Green “Talkin’
About”
Larry Young, Elvin Jones.
If
you’re going to pick 1 Grant Green CD to check out, this
is probably NOT it. But if you’re a diehard fan like me.
It’s great to hear this because it’s a little different
setting for him.
4. Ernest Ranglin- Below
the Bassline.
I just got hip to this guy and
have been wearing this one out. I love it! He has such
an original and unique approach to the guitar. Although
it’s a contemporary jazz format. He can't help but let
his reggae roots ( he’s a 75 year old Jamaican ) seep
into the music. It’s like George Benson meets the
Wailers on Mars.
5. Roy Buccanan - 20th
Century Masters
Sometimes I forget to
mention what a HUGE influence Roy was on me. People
sometimes mention to me about the crying sounds that
I get from my guitar. For my ears, Roy was the original master of
the weeping guitar.
